Government Business Loans & Grants
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) guaranteed 97,891 government business loans for a total of $ 19 billion in government business loans in 2005. Since its founding on July 30, 1953, the U.S. Small Business Administration has delivered about 20 million government loans, government loan guaranteeing, contracts, counseling sessions and other forms of assistance to small businesses. The SBA offers numerous government loan programs to assist small businesses.
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) program award federal grants on a competitive basis to technology based businesses and non-profits. In 2004, these programs produced 6,651 government grants for approximately $ 1.867 billion dollars.
Government Home Loans & Grants
Federal Housing Administration (FHA) loans have been helping people become homeowners since 1934. FHA loans help low- and moderate-income families become homeowners by lowering some of the costs of their home loans. Properties must meet certain minimum requirements–including manufactured homes, single-family and multifamily properties, and some health-related facilities.
FHA has a government loan that allows you to buy a home, fix it up, and include all the costs in one loan. Or, if you own a home that you want to re-model or repair, you can refinance what you owe and add the cost of repairs – all in one loan.
The Rural Housing Programs provides a number of government home ownership loan and grant opportunities to rural Americans, as well as government loans and grants for home renovation and repair. The Very Low-Income Housing Repair program provides loans and grants to very low-income homeowners to repair, improve, or modernize their dwellings or to remove health and safety hazards. Loans of up to $ 20,000 and grants of up to $ 7,500 are available. Loans are for up to 20 years at 1 percent interest.
VA government loan guarantees are made to service members, veterans, reservists and unmarried surviving spouses for the purchase of homes, condominiums and manufactured homes for the veterans personal occupancy. Veterans may also obtain VA government refinancing loans. VA guarantees a percentage of the loan which permits the veteran to obtain a home loan with no down payment at a competitive interest rate.
College Loans and Grants
The U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid (FSA) office provides more than $ 60 billion a year in student grants, loans, and work-study assistance to help millions of students and families pay for college. FSA’s government loan and grant programs are the largest source of student loans and grants in America, providing nearly 70% of all student financial assistance. Government college loans and grants include Education Consolidation Loans, PLUS Parent Loans, Perkins Student Loans, Stafford Loans for Students, and Pell Grants.
Disaster Relief Loans
In less than 30 days, the U.S. Small Business Administration approved $ 1 billion in government disaster relief loans to the victims of the three hurricanes in 2005. In total, the SBA has approved more than $ 2 billion in disaster relief loans to assist those affected by the devastating hurricanes that struck the Gulf Coast and Florida. The SBA is averaging more than $ 36 million in government loan approvals a day in December to the small businesses and homeowners who need assistance.
If you are in a declared disaster area and are the victim of a disaster, you may be eligible for a government loan from the U.S. Small Business Administration – even if you don’t own a business. As a homeowner, renter and/or personal-property owner, you may apply to the SBA for a government loan to help you recover from a disaster.
As an individual, there is one basic government disaster relief loan, with two purposes, available to you:
1. Personal Property Loan: This government loan provides a homeowner or renter with up to $ 40,000 to help repair or replace personal property, such as clothing, furniture, automobiles, etc., lost in the disaster.
2. Real Property Loan: A homeowner may apply for a government disaster relief loan of up to $ 200,000 to repair or restore their primary home to its pre-disaster condition.
